The auction house Benoche and Jekyo offered a pair of shoes made by famous French leader Napoleon Bonaparte while in exile on the island of St. Helena.

The house said the 40-foot pair was given to sculptor Carlo Marucchetti while working on an equestrian statue of Bonaparte by General Henri Gatien Bertrand, who was exiled by the French commander on the South Atlantic island after his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

The pair is expected to sell for between 50,000 and 80,000 euros at the Drew house on November 29.

Napoleon owned a large collection of shoes he bought from the famous shoe manufacturer Jacques in Montmartre, Paris.

The son-in-law of the sculptor, Marochetti, gave the pair a shoe to French politician Paul Law and his family has since held it.
