Paul McCartney paid a tribute to the late Beatles photographer Robert Freeman on his blog and Twitter. Among other things, he was responsible for the photos on the album covers of the albums With The Beatles , Beatles For Sale , Help! and Rubber Soul .
Freeman died on Friday at the age of 82. He also contributed to the credits of the first two Beatles films A Hard Day's Night and Help! .
In his post on Twitter, Paul McCartney described the photographer as a fantastic man: "He was one of our favorite photographers responsible for one of our most iconic album covers."
Freeman suffered a serious stroke in 2014, after which his family sold a copy of one of the John Lennon portraits he made to pay for his care and preserve his photo archive.
In addition to his Beatles work, Freeman also took photos of other artists including John Coltrane. For The Sunday Times, he also portrayed politicians such as Nikita Khrushchev.
