A 28-year-old office worker man in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, was arrested on suspicion of confinement for confining a 7-month-old baby of a partner woman in a washing machine at home. According to police investigation, Sugihara is suspected of being confined in September because a partner's 7-month-old baby was locked in a washing machine at home.

Sugihara suspected that the woman was out at the time, and Sugihara had taken the baby in a 40-cm-deep washing tub with a mobile phone and sent the image to the woman.

In response to the investigation, he stated that he had put it in the washing machine and admitted the charges.
