The fact that famous faces, which many have confidence in, are being used illegally in advertising and advertising has become a growing phenomenon in Hollywood in recent years. Many times, the ads also lead to the person buying the product being forced to provide payment card information or automatically joining expensive subscriptions that are difficult to get out of.

Two of those who have had their faces twisted in this way are actor Sandra Bullock and talk show host Ellen Degeneres. On Wednesday, they filed a lawsuit with a Los Angeles court to address the problem, New York Times reports.

The lawsuit concerns a large number of unnamed salespeople who have used so-called affiliate marketing where website owners have published advertising and fake news articles and received commission from the company based on the purchases made through clicks from the website.

Used in advertising for skin care products

Just Sandra Bullock and Ellen Degeneres have often been used in ads for skincare and beauty products, and they list according to New York Times 40 skincare products sold on the internet where images of them and fabricated quotes were used without their approval.

According to the lawsuit, the companies are trying to use the reputation of both Hollywood profiles and "healthy exterior" to attract customers:

"They become targets because of their age, good reputation and because they have worked hard for a healthy and youthful appearance that fraudsters believe attracts and deceives customers into giving their credit card information".
