Three distinguished schools from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and the UAE are competing for the title of Arab Distinguished School in the Arab Reading Challenge. The winning school will receive a cash prize of one million dirhams at the closing ceremony of the fourth edition of the Arab Reading Challenge, hosted by the Dubai Opera House. The public will be able to vote on the Arab Reading Challenge website, starting tomorrow, for a week, to contribute to the selection of the most outstanding school to be crowned. The three schools are: Imam Al-Nawawi School (Saudi Arabia), Tripoli Al-Hadidain Official Secondary School for Girls (Lebanon), and Al-Rams School for Basic Education (UAE).

Accurate standards

The three schools were selected by the jury according to precise criteria, most notably the ability of the school to organize the challenge according to the required standards, and expand the scope of its benefits to include more participants from its students, and the success of high percentages of these read and summarize the content of 50 books each, The jury visited the three schools to conduct accurate evaluations to determine their success in meeting the conditions and standards. The selection of the three schools for the finalists saw a heated competition, given the record number of schools participating in the fourth edition of the Arab Reading Challenge 2019, numbering 67 thousand schools, an increase of more than 15 thousand schools, compared to the third version last year.

The selection of outstanding schools, which reach the final stage of the competition, is subject to several stages of qualification, first at the level of school districts and then directorates or governorates, to the selection of outstanding schools at the state level.

It will be available to the public from all over the world to contribute to the selection of outstanding school in the Arab Reading Challenge for 2019, by voting through the website www.arabreadingchallenge.com, after reviewing the achievements of the school, and will be available for a whole week before the closing ceremony of the challenge of reading Arabic, Starting tomorrow. The votes received by each school will be counted and taken into account when the jury selects the school's winner this year within a set percentage.

Contestants for the title

Of the thousands of schools participating, three have achieved remarkable excellence and qualified for the top positions. The following are the three schools competing for the title: «Imam nuclear school for boys» (Saudi Arabia), the number of students in the school located in Yanbu area 566 students, from the first grade to the sixth, the rate of participation of school students participating in the Arab Reading Challenge in its fourth season 100% of all students, where each student read 50 books, the school organized 103 initiatives and cultural and community events to promote reading at the level of the school and the community, in addition to organizing initiatives and Arab events, including participation in the activities of the Sharjah International Book Fair.

The second school is «Tripoli Al-Hadidain Official Secondary School for Girls» (Lebanon). The number of female students in the school in Tripoli is 508, from the tenth to the twelfth grade. The percentage of female students participating in the Arab Reading Challenge in its fourth season reached 100%. 50 books, 95 female students, and the number of students who qualified at the district level Three students, the school has developed a tight plan to encourage and support reading activity.

The third school is Al Rams School for Basic Education (UAE). The number of students in the school in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is 480 students, from kindergarten through fourth grade. The percentage of students participating in the Arab Reading Challenge in its fourth season reached 100%. They finished reading 50 books and 85 students.

Creative ideas and initiatives

The Secretary-General of the Arab Reading Challenge, Mona Al-Kindi, said that “The Arab Reading Challenge witnessed an unprecedented record participation of schools, with a total of more than 67,000 schools, which increased competition for the title of Distinguished School. Many creative ideas and initiatives to encourage and motivate students to read, in addition to urging parents and the community surrounding these schools to contribute and interact positively with the challenge of Arab reading, in order to achieve its main objectives, most notably turning the reading into a habit acceptable to young people and young people everywhere.

She added that «the broad participation of schools this year, which is about 15 thousand schools over the third session of the Arab Reading Challenge last year, confirms that the largest cultural and knowledge initiative in the Arab world is gaining new ground and growing momentum and a wider resonance year after year, in light of the breadth Community participation resulting from the initiatives launched by schools in their surroundings ».
