Pig cholera Nov. 1 at 20:57 on Saitama

In September, vaccination of pigs and other animals began in Saitama Prefecture, where the first infection of swine cholera was confirmed in the Kanto region.

The country has 11 prefectures where wild boars have been confirmed to be infected with swine cholera as the target area for preventive vaccination, and since last month, vaccination has started in Gunma Prefecture.

Saitama Prefecture has begun vaccination of 135,000 pigs and wild boars, which are bred at 137 facilities such as pig farms and zoos in the prefecture.

Five areas, including the Chichibu area in the western part of the prefecture and the Kodama area in the northwestern part, where infection of pigs and wild boar has been confirmed so far, are given priority.

Eating pork meat that has been vaccinated has no effect on health, and the Saitama Prefectural Livestock Safety Division will work with the government and producer groups to prevent damage to reputation.

On the other hand, in order to stop the spread of wild boar infections, the prefecture also sprayed "food mixed with vaccines" in 10 places such as Yorii-cho forests.
