Egypt unveiled yesterday archaeological discoveries in Luxor in the West Valley of the Kings (also known as Valley of the Apes) and the Valley of the Kings, where the famous royal tombs are located.
The Ministry of Antiquities announced that Egyptian archaeologists discovered 30 workshops in the industrial zone of the Valley of the Western Kings.
Head of the mission, Zahi Hawass, said, “The mission succeeded in finding for the first time in the Valley of the Apes the workshops for the manufacture and processing of funerary furniture for the tombs of the kings. One of the decorative elements used to decorate wooden coffins during the 18th Dynasty. ”
The team has been working in the Valley of the Apes, located in the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor since 2017. Archaeologists have also found gold flakes and some decorative elements called the Horus Wing.
Hawass added that a second mission working in the Valley of the Eastern Kings found many artifacts, including 42 small shacks where workers were putting the tools they used to build the tombs, in addition to several hieroglyphic paintings, and parts of the tombs carved and rings of the era of Ramesses.
The discoveries are the latest in a series of major discoveries of ancient monuments that Egypt hopes to revive its tourism business, damaged by political unrest.
