Plastic shopping bags on biomass Straw on paper JR East October 10th 4:30

As plastic waste reduction is a global issue, JR East will gradually use plastic shopping bags, which are used by the entire group, including station building stores, as biomass materials by September next year. Clarified switching.

With regard to plastic waste, the G20 Summit held in Osaka in June has compiled the goal of zero pollution by marine plastic waste by 2050, and countries have agreed.

Under these circumstances, JR East is working to reduce plastics at stores of 25 group companies such as station buildings and hotels. Plastic bags will be used for materials such as biomass by September next year, and straws will be used for paper by March next year. It has been clarified that each material will be switched sequentially.

According to JR East, last year, 240 million plastic shopping bags and 30 million straws were used, and by changing the material, approximately 420 tons of plastic can be reduced annually.

JR East commented, “While reducing waste, I want as many people as possible to know about the problem of plastic waste.”
