His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, yesterday visited the Arab House in the Spanish capital of Madrid, which is the official center for cultural exchange of intellectual and Arab-Spanish. Upon his arrival, he was received by the Director General of the Arab House Foundation, Pedro Martinez Avila, and a number of representatives of the Spanish cultural and academic institutions.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah took a note in the Golden Register of VIP visitors to the Arab House in Madrid. “We are delighted to visit this so-called“ Arab House ”and it is a gateway to consolidate and strengthen cultural relations between the Arab world and Spain,” he said.

He added, "Today we are taking a very important step to link the Arab culture with Spanish together in documents mixed with respect and appreciation. We hope to be at a level befitting us as Arabs and Spain."

At the Ambassador's Hall, His Highness witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between Sharjah Book Authority and the Arab House in Spain, aimed at promoting Emirati and Arab culture in Spain.

The agreement aims at enhancing the cooperation between Sharjah and Spain in several strategic cultural axes, through their regional and international networks, opening wider horizons for communication and cultural exchange between the two parties, and identifying the appropriate programs according to the agreement between the two parties. His followers in Madrid and Cordoba, to organize meetings and exhibitions to promote the UAE and Arab cultures, and provide opportunities to introduce Emirati writers and publishers in Spain.

The agreement included the creation of a joint cultural program between the two parties, which serves the frameworks of cooperation with international cultural institutions, and guides the creators and specialists in the cultural field in Spain to find effective tools to promote cultural dialogue between Sharjah on the one hand, Spain and the world on the other.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed bin Rakkad al-Amiri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, and Pedro Martinez Avial, Director General of the Arab House. The audience then followed a documentary film about the headquarters of the Arab House in Córdoba, its history, its cultural, literary and artistic treasures and its architectural architecture. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah toured the Arab House, inspecting the art exhibitions held, such as the exhibition «Art from North Africa», and the exhibition «Night Star» by the Spanish sculptor Cristobal Martin. At the end of his visit, His Highness took a memorial photo with officials and representatives of the Arab House in Madrid and the delegation accompanying him in front of the main entrance of the building.
