A suspected drug dealer was shot dead in northern Mexico during an interview with National Geographic, while the journalist was wounded in the attack.
According to local authorities, the attack took place on Friday evening in a popular neighborhood in Ciudad Juarez, where the crime rate is very high in Chihuahua State, near the border with the United States.
"A presumed drug dealer was killed while apparently interviewing a television team," the state prosecutor said in a statement. Armed men from his rival gang arrived and opened fire. ”
The prosecutor said the American journalist was taken to a hospital in the city, where he is being treated for a foot injury.
The other unidentified photographers were taken to the United States on Saturday.
Mexico is one of the world's most dangerous countries for journalists, with nearly 100 of them killed since 2000, in connection with drug-related violence and political corruption.
