Do family members or friends always come to you with questions about the pay gap or the pension system? Then we have a great place for you on the economy editor of the largest news site in the Netherlands. You get the chance to drink coffee with founders of start-ups and you talk to CEOs of well-known companies. We are looking for someone who knows why employers recently supported the women's quota and can also explain what the discount rate is.
What are you going to do?
You will be in charge of the daily management of NU.nl's economics section and the editors who work there. In the morning you meet with colleagues from other editors about the news choices that are made, you keep an eye on the agenda and you organize our schedule.
You motivate your editors to write fresh, accessible news articles and you enjoy helping people and making them better. You also write original longreads for the NUweekend section and short news stories.
In addition, you are responsible for one or two 'specials': weekly headings that are less focused on the news. You maintain contact with freelancers and you contribute ideas about personal finance, work-life balance or entrepreneurship.
Who are we looking for?
With you, the glass is always half full and you think in terms of solutions. You like to get others enthusiastic but you also set clear boundaries.
You also have experience with finding and making news and you understand how to read the quarterly figures of a company. We are looking for someone who has preferably worked in journalism for several years and has at least a bachelor's degree. Do you not meet those requirements, but are you perfect for this job? Then convince me in your motivation.
What do we offer?
A challenging job in which you can learn a lot through contact with colleagues from other editors. You will soon work for an ambitious and hard-working editorial team, where there is also room for relaxation.
We organize a drink once every two months (with beer, wine, juices and soft drinks) and often plan other outings around it. Sometimes in a team, sometimes just with separate groups of colleagues.
As coordinator of the economy editorial team you report to (and work closely with) the chief economics, tech and specials.
The position falls on scale 6 of the collective labor agreement DJ. The editors in Hoofddorp are also right next to the station. You can also work out in the building, you have a chance of profit sharing every year and you can get a laptop and telephone to work on.
You should know about NU.nl
With eight million monthly users, NU.nl is the largest news site in the Netherlands. We are always on the move and developments are moving fast. You will therefore have enough opportunities to develop yourself and to contribute to new projects together with other colleagues.
We work on an open floor where there is a lot of contact between various editors and collaboration is encouraged. The atmosphere is informal. Everyone is encouraged to speak up and think along.
