Labor market: number of unemployed dropped by 85,000 in September

2019-09-30T08:40:07.342Z

Even compared to last year, there are fewer people looking for work. In July and August the number had increased.

The number of unemployed in Germany fell in September by 85,000 to 2.234 million. 22,000 fewer people were looking for a job than in September of the previous year, as the Nuremberg Federal Employment Agency (BA) announced on Monday. The
Unemployment fell by 0.2 percentage points to 4.9 percent.

BA boss Detlef Scheele explained that the economic weakness phase shows itself in the job market also in September. "Employment growth continues, but it loses momentum, and companies' demand for new employees has repeatedly dropped at a high level." All in all, the job market is still "in a robust condition". For example, employment and employment subject to social security contributions would have continued to increase.
