A Pakistani court on Friday convicted the brother of social media star Qandil Baloch for her murder and sentenced him to life in prison.

In detail, Baloch, known in the international press as "Kim Kardashian", was strangled to death by her brother in defense of honor, where she published self-portraits and recordings deemed provocative by the perpetrator.

The actor arrested her brother Mohammed Waseem, and days later he told a news conference that he did not regret what he had done and that he "of course" killed his sister because her behavior had become "unacceptable."

Wadim's defense lawyer, Sardar Mahmood, said in a court in the eastern city of Multan that his client was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

Earlier, Baloch's mother, Anwar May, said she hoped her son would be acquitted. "He is innocent. She was my daughter, my son."

The murder of Kandil Baloch has made headlines around the world and has helped renew calls for action against so-called "honor killings," whose victims are usually women, with impunity.

Three months after the crime, parliament passed a new law imposing life imprisonment for perpetrators of honor killings.
