Abu Dhabi Police has launched an accelerator to reduce road traffic deaths to 3 per 100,000 inhabitants by 2021, an initiative within the government to accelerate the national agenda.

Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate Brigadier Mohammad Dahi Al-Humairi said that the accelerator aims to reduce the number of deaths by 25% in the third quarter of this year compared with the same period last year.

He pointed out that it includes a media awareness about the dangers of preoccupation with the road in social media and broadcast awareness videos to protect pedestrians in public transport buses of the Department of Transport.

He said that the accelerator is being implemented in coordination and partnership with the Department of Transport, the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, to carry out the engineering improvements required to improve the levels of traffic safety on the roads of the Emirate.

He explained that he identified the most prominent causes of deaths on the Emirate's roads, namely: busy non-road, speed and lack of appreciation of road users, and these reasons were chosen as the most prominent in the cause of deaths in the third quarter of 2018.

The Director of the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols called road users to abide by the rules and the law of traffic and traffic so as to maintain the safety of all, and avoid preoccupation with the road while driving, and to adhere to the speeds and give pedestrians priority crossing.
