German nutritionist Emke Rize has warned that iodine deficiency raises the risk of hypothyroidism, whose symptoms are weight gain and cold, as well as pallor, persistent fatigue and mood disorder.

She said that the sources of food rich in iodine are sea fish such as salmon and seafood, in addition to broccoli and cashew.

According to the recommendations of the German Dietetic Association, an adult needs iodine at a rate of 180 to 200 micrograms per day, while this requirement for pregnant women increases between 230 and 260 micrograms, although the pregnant can cover this need through the use of iodine tablets.
