A monkey doll left by a five-year-old Australian girl inadvertently returned to Buckingham Palace after receiving royal care from staff at the palace and also had travel facilities, a dog puppet.

The baby Savannah Hart took the monkey doll, Harriet, one of six monkey dolls at the Woodside kindergarten in Adelaide, on a holiday with her family in Europe and then lost her.

Savannah's mother, Katie, realized that the doll was missing the next day, but could not find it before returning to Australia.

Woodside kindergarten staff then found the doll and wrote a letter to the queen appealing to her to find her beloved doll and included photos of Harriet's travels around the world.

"We have attached a lot of pictures of Harriet's adventures around the world," said kindergarten teacher Robin Haringer. "All the children signed the letter and put it in an envelope and mailed it."

The surprise was that the mansion replied the following week, saying that Harriet was in good condition and attached photos of the doll's tours at the Queen's Residence.

Harriet soon returned to Australia with a new friend named Rex, a dog puppet from the palace gift shop.
