Accreditation of 1043 eligible schools free of charge From April of next year, Ministry of Education, September 20, 17:15

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology approved and announced 1043 target universities and junior colleges for the purpose of free graduation of higher education such as universities starting in April next year for low-income households.

Free education in higher education is a system that will be introduced from April next year, with a portion of the increase in the consumption tax rate as a source of funds, as the rate of going on to universities in low-income households is low.

As a result of the examination, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology recognized 1043 schools, which are 97.1% of universities and junior colleges, as target schools and announced them on the 20th.

The system is for low-income households, specifically a couple and two children, with an annual income of less than about 3.8 million yen, and admission fees and tuition fees are reduced.

The country is estimated to have a maximum of 750,000 people, and it is estimated that the cost will be up to 760 billion yen, including benefits-type scholarships that do not need to be returned.

While there are voices that this system will lead to the elimination of the disparity, there is criticism that it may lead to a relief plan for private management rather than students.

Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Minister Ikuta said, “We were able to show students a variety of options. I think it should not be a survival tool for difficult schools that are limited to clearing the hurdles for putting public funds I said.

The target school can be confirmed on the MEXT website.
