Minister of Health: Jens Spahn is still for reimbursement of homeopathy through health insurance
That some health insurance companies refund homeopathic remedies, is controversial. But the Minister of Health wants to hold on to it in view of the small sums of money.
Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) does not want to touch the controversial assumption of costs for homeopathic medicines by health insurances.
He said this at the Berlin Salon of the editorial network Germany (RND). Spahn pointed out that the legal funds paid for homeopathy with drug expenditures of around 40 billion euros per year about 20 million. You can talk about it emotionally and thereby offend many people. Or one could ask oneself whether it is worth considering the whole order of magnitude. He decided it was "okay," Spahn said.
In France homeopathic medicines will no longer be reimbursed from 2021 onwards. Also in Germany is discussed about it. Those who want to have such means, they should receive, "but not at the expense of solidarity," said the head of the Federal Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), Andreas Gassen said. He pointed to insufficient scientific evidence of efficacy.
Homeopathy is not part of the service catalog of the statutory health insurance. However, many health insurances reimburse insured treatment costs for natural remedies because there is a demand. This is also an instrument in the competition between the funds.
