An 18-carat gold toilet was stolen last morning from Blenheim Palace , the mansion in the English countryside where former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was born , police confirmed on Saturday.

A 66-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft of the toilet, valued at 1 million pounds (1.12 million euros ) and was part of an exhibition by the Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan .

Thames Valley Police, who were alerted at 3.57 GMT, said the theft of the toilet, which was connected to the pipes and was used by the public , "has caused serious damage and an escape," which has caused the closure Provisional mansion located in Woodstock (Oxfordshire County). Agents believe that the perpetrators of the crime, in which there were no injuries, could "act in groups and have used at least two vehicles."
