September 34 at 4:33 to be designated as 34 cancer genome hospitals nationwide

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has designated 34 medical institutions nationwide as regional base hospitals to promote the spread of cancer genomic medicine, which examines the genes of cancer patients and selects the best treatment.

“Genomic medicine” for cancer is a new medicine that analyzes the genetic information of cancer cells of patients and selects the best treatment, and is listed as one of the pillars in the national cancer control basic plan.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's expert meeting has selected 34 medical institutions nationwide as regional base hospitals to disseminate genomic medicine.

At the base hospital, cancer patients are genetically tested and the results are medically interpreted to determine what is the best treatment. In addition, the results of genetic tests carried out at other medical institutions in the region are also summarized and examined and play the role of the base hospital.

34 base hospitals are expected to be designated during this month, which will enable the examination of therapeutic drugs based on genetic testing at 45 locations nationwide, together with 11 core base hospitals that have already been designated.
