Essebsi's widow dies on Tunisian presidential election day

The son of the late Tunisian President Beji Kaid Essebsi announced on Sunday morning the death of his mother, nearly two months after the death of her husband last July.

In a post on his Facebook page, Hafez Kaid Essebsi said: "I moved to my neighborhood, the late Lord, God willing, my mother Ms. Shazliya widow of the late President Mohammed Beji Kaid Essebsi."

President Beji Kaid Essebsi died in July at the age of 92.

Tunisia is witnessing the start of the race for the presidency, where voters cast their votes to elect a new president.

The presidential election is followed by parliamentary elections in October, marking the next step in the country's democratic transition after the 2011 revolution.
