Pigs at the Livestock Experiment Station were infected with swine cholera Nagano Shiojiri September 14 18:27

Nagano Prefecture announced that it was confirmed that pigs bred for research at Shiojiri City Prefectural Livestock Experiment Station were infected with swine cholera. In the prefecture, infection was confirmed even in February, and the prefecture is killing about 350 pigs that are raised.

Porcine cholera does not infect humans and has no effect when eaten, but when infected with pigs or wild boars it is a contagious disease that causes symptoms such as fever and is likely to die.

According to Nagano Prefecture, on the 12th, when one pig bred for research at the Prefectural Livestock Experiment Station in Shiojiri City was vomiting, the laboratory contacted the Matsumoto Livestock Health Center.

A national institution inspected 14 of these pigs from the night of 13th, and it was confirmed that 8 of them were infected with swine fever in the morning of 14th.

Infection with swine has been confirmed in the prefecture since the pig farm in Miyata village was confirmed in February from pigs purchased from Aichi Prefecture.

From the morning of the 14th, the prefecture started killing 349 animals being bred at the Livestock Experiment Station, and by 2:00 pm killed 225 animals, Governor Abe held a urgent countermeasure meeting for the prefecture. The institution instructed to work closely together to promptly implement thorough prevention measures.

After the meeting, Governor Abe said, “The government should take responsibility for the vaccination of pig cholera vaccines in domestic pigs. I want to encourage them to respond promptly.”
