While appearing in the play "One of us two", Christophe Barbier returns to the media and political time that has just passed, including the movement of "yellow vests".

Christophe Barbier editorialist, yes. But the journalist is also a playwright. For over 30 years, he has enjoyed reciting texts on the boards. In this season, he is on the bill of One of Us Two , at the Théâtre du Petit Montparnasse, in Paris. In Media Culture on Europe 1, he returns to his first cap: his role as editorialist.

"The editorialist forces people to build their own opinion"

The editorialists have been the subject of many criticisms during the movement of "yellow vests", accused of being too partisan and not objective enough. Christophe Barbier, editorialist at L'Express and BFM TV, was not spared. In July, Liberation CheckNews.fr had even wondered if Christophe Barbier was really a journalist. "I found it very interesting," says Christophe Barbier. "During the movement of 'yellow vests', people told us: 'you, editorialists, are not journalists, you take sides', but yes!", He assumes.

For Christophe Barbier, the editorialist's work is an integral part of journalism. "Journalism starts with reporting - saying what you see - but at the end of journalism, there is also, once the facts are established, that the commentary and the analysis were done, a little more than we must add: it is the party, "says the man with the famous red scarf. "The editorialist forces people - not to obey - but to build their own opinion," he continues.

"We came out of a very aggressive year"

However, Christophe Barbier recognizes that the political news has pushed both in extremes. "We came out of a very aggressive year, very violent, very peremptory in the position of each other, including myself," confessed the journalist. "It may be necessary to move to a year where we will ask things to better explain them, be more teacher and less prosecutor," he concludes.
