The Cultural Complex on its new theater, which opened recently in Abu Dhabi, hosted the play «Ahmed Bint Sulaiman», which was presented, the night before last, Kalba Association of Folklore and Theater, marking the launch of the series of UAE theatrical performances in partnership with the Association of Dramatists, which is shown on the second Tuesday of each month A locally produced play.

The play «Ahmed Bint Sulaiman» written by Naji Hai and directed by Ahmed Al Ansari, which is inspired by the novel «Child sand», by the Moroccan writer Tahar Ben Jelloun, as turned Hai into a play in the Emirati dialect, with a special focus on the beauty of poetic language.

This play raised controversial issues in an attempt to overcome the taboo, and put bold topics, in a critical, eloquent and constructive manner.

The cast included Fatima Al Hosani, Abdullah Masoud, Abeer Al Jasmi, Adel Sbeit and Suga, and local artistic talents.

The Abu Dhabi Children's Library at the Cultural Complex hosted during its opening week the exhibition “Journey Between Words”, which focused on highlighting the role of animated stereoscopic books in literacy. The library also launched its weekly program of workshops and family events.

The Cultural Complex in the main hall and ground floor spaces will host until December 15 the individual exhibition «Najat Makki: Illuminations». This innovative and contemporary exhibition highlights the experimental and open approach adopted by the UAE artist Najat Makki in her approach to the geographic and historical narratives that affected her. The inaugural season of the cultural complex also includes a community art exhibition entitled “Dedication: A Celebration of Najat Makki” with the participation of 19 Emirati artists who were influenced by Najat Makki's art and its leading role in developing the art scene in the UAE.

The Cultural Foundation also celebrated the return of the Free Studio workshops through the launch of a new program focusing on artistic education, as well as the creation of the House of Calligraphy as a space dedicated to the teaching of Arabic calligraphy.
