Photographer Robert Frank has passed away. The death is confirmed for the New York Times by Frank's gallerist Peter McGill.

Robert Frank was born in Switzerland and moved to the United States at the age of 20. He is best known for his photo book The americans, with photographs from trips he made throughout the United States taken during the 1950s. According to the New York Times, his style changed modern photojournalism.

Robert Frank has also made a number of films and photographed the cover of Rolling Stone's album Exile on main street, as well as made the documentary about their tour in 1972.
