Frank was born in Switzerland and came to the United States at the age of 23. In the fifties of the twentieth century, Frank made several tours across America. The photos he took during those journeys were bundled in the book The Americans .
Frank later developed himself as the master of the style known as 'snapshot aesthetic'. The style is characterized by photos, which actually resemble snapshots. Fast snapshots with a lot of depth and an eye for the situation.
In addition to photography, Frank also focused on making films. Pull My Daisy appeared in 1959 and was succeeded in 1960 by The Sin of Jesus . After these two short films, Frank ventured into his first feature film Me and My Brother in 1965.
