Six pollutants, endocrine disruptors, are present in the body of all French, according to a study published Tuesday. André Cicolella, a chemist and toxicologist, analyzes health risks, especially for children.

INTERVIEW

This is an edifying study published Tuesday by Public Health France. According to the organization, six pollutants are present in the body of all French (bisphenols, phthalates, parabens ...). While the government has presented its roadmap against endocrine disruptors, toxicologist André Cicolella warns about the dangers to health, especially for children. "Children are more contaminated," says the chemist, interviewed Tuesday night Europe 1.

"The challenge is contamination during pregnancy, which is crucial for the health of the child, the future adult and the offspring, for example, small baby food containers, even in glass. Toys too, especially old ones, "worries the researcher. "According to several studies on bisphenol, at the level of current contamination of the human population, you induce in infertility sons and grandsons and great-grandchildren infertility and decline in the quality of sperm. In France, a man has lost in 50 years two spermatozoa out of 3. There is no other explanation than these endocrine disruptors. "

"Every citizen must manage his environment as best he can"

These six pollutants are present in many everyday products, making it almost impossible to guard against them. "They are in clothing, cosmetics, PVC floors, food, drugs ... It's a general contamination, and the problem is the health consequences." Bisphenol is now banned in baby bottles and canned foods, but there are other sources, "explains André Cicolella.

The researcher still gives some instructions to mitigate the impact of these pollutants. "Every citizen has to manage his environment in the best possible way, and first and foremost pregnant women, by eating with organic food, we already eliminate contamination by a certain number of pesticides." There are simple hygiene measures, such as vacuuming or airing your home, "advises André Cicolella.
