Created in 1994, Yasmina Reza's play Art has become a classic worldwide. In France, Pierre Arditi, Fabrice Luchini and Jean-Louis Trintignant played the roles of Marc, Serge and Yvan. From September 11th to October 27th at the Théâtre Antoine in Paris, it's Alain Fromager, Charles Berling and Jean-Pierre Darroussin who will camp these characters. The latter was at Anne Roumanoff's on Tuesday, precisely to evoke this piece that questions contemporary art and friendship.
"Spectators do not expect this to bounce all the time"
An exhausting play, from which one leaves out flat, according to the words of the actor. We must not trust appearances, Art may be an exchange of arguments around the purchase of a whiteboard for a large sum of money, "it's a boxing match," said Jean-Pierre Darroussin. "The spectators do not expect it to bounce all the time, there is something clown in the room," says the actor.
"Impose his vision, his taste, his power"
In Art , Serge's character invites Marc to come and see his new acquisition, an entirely white painting, bought at the price of 200,000 francs. Then follows a debate on contemporary art. "They are competitions of dominant males. (...) Put money in a work of art, it is to show that one has a bigger dick than the other", explains Jean-Pierre Darroussin . "There is something of the order to want to impose his vision, his taste, his power, and so, to say that it is beautiful, put a lot of money," says the actor. The actor trio is currently out of a regional tour. Jean-Pierre Darroussin received the Molière 2018 for best actor in a private theater show for his performance.
