"Japan Wine Contest" 21 brands won the gold medal at 14 wineries September 2:13:47

At the “Japan Wine Contest”, which competes for the quality of wine brewed using only domestic grapes, 14 wineries from six prefectures won gold awards.

The “Japan Wine Contest” is held every year by executive committees in Yamanashi Prefecture to improve the quality of “Japanese wine” brewed using only grapes grown in Japan.

This year, 14 wineries in 6 prefectures won gold awards for 21 brands, and among them, the winery “Chateau Mercian” in Koshu City received the most award in 5 brands. “Shimane Winery” won the highest award for the first time outside of Yamanashi Prefecture.

Hironori Matsuo, general manager of Chateau Mercian, said, “I think it is the result of know-how and efforts accumulated at Yamanashi.”

In addition, Masato Shindo, President of Shimane Winery, said, “I am really happy that I can never win the highest award.”
