The 65th edition of the Eurovision Festival will be held in May 2020 in the Dutch city of Rotterdam , after analyzing the "technical suitability" of the location, the surrounding facilities and the financial contribution of the municipality, confirmed the organization of the event on Friday.

Rotterdam, a multicultural and most important port city in the Netherlands, presented the Rotterdam Ahoy event complex as a proposal, where the world's most famous artists perform every year and where the MTV EMA (European Music) awards ceremony was held in 2016 Awards).

This location, recently renovated, has several concert halls and a large capacity to accommodate the media, changing rooms for participants and offices of the organization.

"Rotterdam has shown fantastic enthusiasm and commitment and has the right facilities to welcome delegations from more than 40 countries," the festival statement added.

The Eurovision Festival will take place between Tuesday, May 12 and Saturday, May 16 of next year, according to Dutch organizers, which include the Dutch public broadcaster (NPO), the Avrotros organization and Dutch television NOS .

The winner of this year's Eurovision edition, the Dutchman Duncan Laurence, had publicly expressed his support for the city of Rotterdam, which is also home to the largest industrial port and complex in Europe.

Initially, there was a long list of cities competing to host the festival, but at the end of the race there were only Rotterdam and Maastricht , before the withdrawal of Amsterdam, Arnhem, Bolduque, The Hague and Utrecht, especially alleging reasons for lack of spaces to host an event of these dimensions.

According to NPO Director General Shula Rijxman, the song festival "will also work as a showcase for Holland in Europe" and stressed that the organizers will work alongside Rotterdam and the Ahoy to "organize a unique event that connects and inspires all inhabitants "of the region.

The convention center was built in 1970, inspired by the port and maritime industry of Rotterdam, and won several awards nationally and internationally.

At the accessibility level, Rotterdam has a small airport with flights to different European cities, but it is also accessible from Schiphol-Amsterdam in half an hour by train, and has one of the largest train stations in the country, with Thalys stops from Paris or the Eurostar from London.

The city, with more than 630,000 inhabitants, is home to 174 nationalities, which means that all the countries participating in the Eurovision Festival are represented in the local population, organizers remember.
