The trend is that the figures fell during both the first and second quarters of this year. Last year, 60 percent of the new songs that entered the list during the second quarter were hip-hop songs, while that figure for this year is 34 percent.
The success of the pop genre depends on songs like Bad Guy by Billie Eilish and several new Taylor Swift singles. But according to the analysis company, the trend is clear: the music has been more pop-emphasized and in addition a higher proportion of songs have had a higher tempo and happier sound. If the trend continues throughout the year, it may be that 2019 was the year when hip-hop was overtaken by pop music.
