The TV series about the Chernobyl disaster was a success earlier this year and created a tourist boom for the area affected by the nuclear accident. But at the same time another disaster has been going on in silence.

In 1957, a chemical explosion occurred, which caused half a million people to be exposed to radiation from the plant. Sovjek only told about the accident in the late 1980s.

This is around the Russian nuclear power plant Majak, which was built in the 1940s. Emissions from this have made generations of people sick, according to author Anna Fock who wrote the book Weather Phenomena.
