Cycling in Belgium wants to go one step (or a pedal) further. The Belgian province of Limburg has just opened Cycling through the Trees , a new cycling and hiking experience among the treetops , 10 meters high.

The new bicycle lane, which offers a 360º view, gradually ascends to a double circumference of 100 meters in diameter before descending again. In total, 700 meters of travel observing the Bosland trees (a forest an hour and a half northeast of Brussels) in a unique way.

The path, 700 meters, draws a double circumference.

The layout is based on a structure of unique columns made of steel that symbolizes the trunks of the fir trees, so that the entire project is perfectly integrated into its surroundings. At the beginning of the route, it is even possible to rest in the information pavilion, made of stacked recycled logs.

The Bosland bicycle circuit at 10 meters high.

Safety is guaranteed thanks to a subtle wire mesh with a handrail and the width of three meters gives everyone enough space. This makes cycling through trees an accessible experience for everyone.

Bicycle touring of the future

The forest is largely composed of conifers, planted at the beginning of the last century by the mining industry to produce wood. With the closure of the mines many of these trees were not cut down, affecting the structural development of the forest.

Cycling through trees will help to alleviate this situation because native trees will have more light and space to grow, thus ensuring that forest resources find balance.

In Bokrijk you can pedal across a lake.

Cycling through trees is the second project of a series of innovative experiences that allow cyclists to enjoy the splendor of nature in the Limburg region: in 2016 their older brother, Bike Ride through the Water (in this In this case, it is a linear path in Bokrijk that crosses a lake - and not on the surface, the cyclist has water at head level -) and next year the opening of Cycling through the heather in the heather is planned Hoge Kempen National Park .
