A Russian news channel has made an embarrassing mistake, showing the map of Australia's neighbors, but has apologized for inadvertent "confusion" and corrected it on its platforms.

The Russian channel RT showed a map showing Japan in the place of New Zealand, and Papua Guinea, which is in northern Australia, was referred to as South Korea.

The map was presented as part of talk of a possible new missile program in the region, which could increase tension between Beijing and Washington.

But this recent confusion is not the first of its kind. On many occasions, New Zealand is not referred to on the map because of its remote location on the globe.

The Russian channel apologized for the mistake, saying that its employees in the Washington office were the ones who signed it during the preparation of the morning program, adding that it repaired the error and provided a map to journalists not to be confused again.

In the video of the program on YouTube, it was noted that the clip includes a corrected map.
