Appointed Vice-President of Tokyo Institute of Technology to the MEXT counselor August 22 17:53

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) recruited for the first time a ministerial councilor in charge of science and technology, and Vice President Masashi Sugawara of Tokyo Institute of Technology was appointed.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), for the first time as a part of personnel reforms in response to scandals such as bribery cases, recruited for the first time a ministerial councilor in charge of the Science and Technology and Academic Policy Bureau in order to reflect research issues and other issues in the policy.

As a result, more than 20 people applied, and Vice President Masaru Sugawara (54) of Tokyo Institute of Technology was appointed.

Vice President Sugawara completed the doctoral program at the Tokyo Institute of Technology Graduate School, then worked as a researcher at Kirin Brewery and served as a professor at the Graduate School of Life Science and Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology explains, “The aim is to introduce an external perspective into the basic plan as the state of science and technology changes.” The term of office will be two years and will be announced on the 1st of next month.
