Keanu Reeves is back in the role of Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss returns as Trinity. Writing and directing makes Lana Wachowski, co-creator of the original films.

"We are extremely happy to be returning to" The Matrix "with Lana," Warner Bros chairman Toby Emmerich told Variety.

The first "Matrix" movie came in 1999 and was praised by critics for both its original act - humanity actually lives in a simulated reality - as well as for its groundbreaking special effects. In 2003 came two sequels, "Matrix reloaded" and "Matrix revolutions", but the films were not as successful as the original.

The recording of "Matrix 4", which does not yet have a title, is expected to start next year, according to Variety.
