Freshly picked vegetables in Tokyo that day The first attempt at New Chitose Airport August 21 12:47

In order to transport Hokkaido's agricultural products fresh, a new collection area was set up at New Chitose Airport, and the first attempt was made to deliver corn just harvested on the morning of 21st to Tokyo that day.

This collection place was jointly established at New Chitose Airport last month by a company in Wakayama Prefecture, which handles the distribution of agricultural products with Japan Airlines.

The purpose is to transport Hokkaido produce by airplane and deliver it fresh to the consumption area.

The first attempt was made to use this collection area to transport the harvested agricultural products that day and sell them in the consumption areas.

180 sweet corns that were just harvested in Kitahiroshima City were brought into the collection area early in the morning and loaded into containers equipped with cold insulation.

Then, the aircraft carrying agricultural products took off for Haneda Airport at around 8:00 am.

Takuya Nakano, Hokkaido Sales Manager, Japan Airlines said, “I want to sell a lot of corn that I have shipped in Tokyo. I hope this initiative will lead to regional revitalization, especially at airports.”

Agricultural products brought to the supermarkets in Tokyo before noon on the 21st are sold.
