Ancient insect fossil exhibition Tochigi Nasushiobara August 21 12:48

An exhibition introducing ancient insect fossils found locally is being held in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture.

The Nasugagahara Museum in Nasushiobara City has a geological formation where many insect fossils can be found in the city, so there are about 500 items such as real objects and restoration models to show interest in these fossils. .

Among them, the fossil of the head and chest of “Akaashikuwagata” is a female found in the Shiobara district of the city about 300,000 years ago.

“Glassura” is a primitive dragonfly that inhabited about 300 million years ago, with its wings spread over 70 cm, and exhibits fossil wings found in the United States along with a restored model.

The visiting children looked interestingly at the ancient insects.

A third grade boy from Saitama Prefecture said, “It was interesting to know that it was completely different from the current insect.”

Junji Tawada, a curator at Nasuno Hara Museum, said, “I want you to feel the fate and the restoration model, and how the insects and prosperity at that time prospered.”

This exhibition is open until 23rd of next month.
