Direct observations from NASA's Space Telescope have revealed, for the first time, an empty atmosphere around a Earth-sized rock planet outside our solar system, orbiting a galaxy star. The Soul

The surface of the distant planet is likely to resemble the arid outer surface of the moon or Mercury, possibly covered with dark volcanic rock, according to a study published in the journal Nature on Monday. Located 48.6 light-years from Earth, the planet is one of more than 4,000 objects called extrasolar planets, and has been discovered over the past two decades orbiting distant stars in our Milky Way galaxy.

Scientists call the planet LHS 3488B, about 1.3 times the size of the planet. Survival in the galaxy.

The study says the planet's lack of atmosphere may be due to the intense radiation from the mother's red dwarf star, which emits high levels of ultraviolet radiation, even though it is opaque by stellar standards.
