Over the past few weeks, former US Vice President Joe Biden, considered the Democrats favorite, made a number of annoying and funny mistakes during his public appearances and in his communication with the press.

He claimed, for example, that he was vice president during the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, and yet this tragedy occurred on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2018, when Michael Pence had occupied this chair for two years now.

A flurry of criticism fell upon Biden from all sides when, during a rally in Iowa, he stated that “poor children are as smart and talented as white children.” We must pay tribute to Biden: he quickly realized that he had frozen something wrong, and hastened to improve, but it turned out even worse: “Like rich children, black children, Asian children. Seriously, but think about how we think about it. ”

However, Biden did not stop there. During the debate of future participants in the democratic primaries, he said that in the event of re-election, Trump will be in the White House for another eight years (that is, until 2028), and in the end he urged voters to visit the Joe3030 website (instead of Joe2020). And although supporters of the former vice president immediately crafted a site with that name, everyone realized that Biden was again mistaken.

Biden confused Teresa May with Margaret Thatcher. However, for an American politician this is just an excusable mistake: George W. Bush, the younger one, once called Queen Elizabeth II Elizabeth XI, and the world did not turn over.

But his other pearl instantly became an Internet meme. At a rally in Iowa, Biden “attacked” Trump, accusing the president of passion for fantastic ideas. It would be better if he didn’t do it, because it sounded like this: “We choose science, not fiction. We choose the truth, not the facts. ”

Trump reacted instantly. "Joe Biden said right now:" We believe in facts, not truth. " Does anyone seriously believe that he is intellectually in line with the presidency? ”He wrote on Twitter.

Then the Biden team suggested that the former vice president change the schedule of campaign meetings to reduce the number of annoying misses. One member of the team, on condition of anonymity, told The Hill that Biden “tends to make mistakes at the end of the day,” especially after a long and tiring journey, like Iowa.

Unfortunately, this is not only a matter of usual fatigue, but also of the so-called syndrome of the setting sun (or evening confusion), which affects many elderly people. Subjected to the "setting sun syndrome", an elderly person, as a rule, ceases to navigate in space and time, becomes anxious, is going home, looking for a way out.

A feature of this condition is that in the first half of the day it may not appear at all and becomes noticeable only in the evening.

Here it is necessary to clarify that in November this year, Joe Biden will turn 77 years old. At this age, Ronald Reagan completed his second presidency. And if he wins the 2020 election, America risks getting a 78-year-old president.

Trump, whom his opponents often called the old man, is only four years younger than Biden, but looks much younger and more energetic. The owner of the White House, who is generally difficult to blame for tact, immediately awarded his rival the nickname Sleepy Joe and said that Biden is a complete disaster.

The allies of the former vice president were seriously worried. It became clear that even before entering the primaries stage (they will begin in February next year), old Joe could lose all the advantage that he had recently.

“Many people are nervous because Biden has lost part of his charisma,” one of the main donors of the US Democratic Party told reporters at The Hill. - They begin to get nervous because he will be face to face with Trump. But the problem is that there seems to be no alternative. ”

Biden’s main rival in the Democratic camp is Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren, who Trump mockingly calls Pocahontas (she used the benefits of ethnic minorities to enter university and work, claiming her ancestors were Chiroki Indians; DNA analysis conducted under public pressure , showed that in the veins Warren flows from 1/64 to 1/1024 Native American blood). Now Biden’s margin from Warren across the country is only 1% - and this is a very bad sign for the team of the former vice president. Maybe that is why, arriving on Saturday in Massachusetts, the estate of Pocahontas, Biden made a move that again made him talk about him as a serious political player.

Speaking at a campaign to raise funds for his election campaign, Biden unexpectedly announced that there are "a lot of good Republicans in the US Congress."

“I may have problems with the Democrats because I say this, but the truth is that every time our administration (that is, the Obama administration. - K. B. ) had problems (with Congress. - K. B. ), remember who was sent to Capitol Hill to allow them? Me. Because they knew that I respect the other team, ”he said.

Many Republicans are very worthy people, Biden added, but they are “intimidated” by Trump and forced to support his initiatives. The way out of this situation is to “cross the passage” separating the Democrats from the Republicans and achieve a bipartisan consensus.

“If you start with nothing you can do, why don't you all go home, then, man? Or let's start a real physical revolution if you talk about it. Because we must be able to change what we do inside our system, ”the ex-vice president said, somewhat vaguely but decisively.

Something Biden is undoubtedly right.

The situation that has developed in the United States after the victory of Trump, every day more and more resembles a cold civil war.

The point is not only that the Democrats hate the president, who “stole” the victory from their beloved feminine-globalist Hillary Clinton, but also that modern ultra-liberalism is organically incapable of compromising. Therefore, Republicans, who, due to their greater commitment to traditions, have not changed so much over the past decades, are not just political rivals for them, but existential enemies that cannot be coexisted with. They can only be destroyed.

Even under Obama it was hard to imagine such a situation, because in the end, Republicans in Congress supported Obamacare and many other initiatives of the first black president. And Biden’s merit in achieving this bipartisan consensus is truly great.

Here are just the times changing. And sometimes faster than even the most sophisticated politicians can notice.

Biden’s attempt to extend a “hand of friendship” to the Republicans in Congress is likely to receive a positive response among those “elephants” who do not like Donald Trump’s radicalism. But they are unlikely to decide on an open alliance with a candidate from the Democratic Party: the position of the president inside the Great Old Party is now stronger than ever. But the most radical part of democratic voters may well turn their backs on Biden, because, in their opinion (formed during the two and a half years of Trump’s presidency by liberal media and fake news factories), all Republicans are rich white male chauvinistic pigs and fascists supporting “ Russian agent ”in the White House.

The radical wing of the Democratic Party needs a candidate who effectively and uncompromisingly fights with Trump and the republican agenda, and not an elderly peacemaker who naively believes that bipartisan agreement can be reached on Capitol Hill. That is why Biden’s reasonable, in fact, statement could ultimately do more harm to his campaign than all the funny nonsense he had spoken before.
