American actor Richard Gere, leader of the Italian League and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, has called "Little Trump," who exploits citizens' fears to win votes.

Gear, 69, clashed verbally with Salvini over a ship belonging to the charity Open Arms, with more than 100 migrants on board, and was barred from entering Italy.

"Your country's interior minister has the same mentality as President Trump," Gere told the Corriere della Sera newspaper. "In fact, I call Salvini the little Trump. He uses the same radical ignorance. He exploits fear and hatred."

Two weeks ago, Gir boarded the ship to deliver food and relief supplies to the migrants. In response, Salvini asked him to take immigrants to Hollywood and allow them to stay in his "villas."

"If your interior minister spent some time with these people and listened to their stories and the tragedy of their families, he would have changed his mind," Gere said. Gerr said he wanted to meet Salvini because he was "confident that he is not as he offers himself." He sees politics as an excuse to boost his popularity.
