Set a year before the last chapter of the television series, in 1927, the Downton Abbey movie that premieres on September 20 has as its main plot a royal visit of his majesty King George V and Maria de Teck. He will speak once again about the aristocratic Crawley family and his meticulous team of servants in the fictional Yorkshire mansion.

Among the protagonists are the already favorite Dame Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Joanne Froggatt, Laura Carmichael, Allen Leech, Lesley Nicole and Elizabeth McGovern. We will also see Jim Carter back in his role as Butler Carson in an attempt to return Downton to his glorious past .

Highclere Castle , a peculiar star of the film and the last television series near the border between Hampshire and Berkshire, reincarnates the famous Downton Abbey scenery. The incredible period mansion with more than 2,000 hectares, the residence of the Counts of Carnarvon, houses a Jacobin architecture by Sir Charles Barry dating back to the 1820s.

In addition to the manor house, its immaculate land , designed by the renowned landscape designer Capability Brown in 1770, and declared a place of special scientific interest in 1991.

The castle opens for a limited period of time during the summer (from July 7 to September 2), and on other specific dates for special events during the year, offering Downton Abbey fans the opportunity to discover the impressive building in the first person

And just in time for the premiere of the film in the United Kingdom, it organizes Costumes, Cocktails and Castle Tours during the weekend of September 7 and 8. These are guided visits to the castle where attendees can follow the trail of the stars wrapped in a spectacular collection of costumes from the twenties .

Once the film is released, special guided tours have been organized under the name of Real Lives and Film Sets , which will allow visitors to explore the beauty of official dependencies, climb the large oak staircase and dive into the incredible Egyptian Exhibition , which details the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen by the fifth count of Carnavon and Howard Carter-, in addition to learning more about the rich and diverse history of the place. Visits also include a seasonal lunch in the tea rooms of the mansion's Coach House .

Beamish Open Air Museum

Also used as a decoration for the film, the Beamish open-air museum in Durham County recreates the lifestyle of northeast England in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is an entire town set around the 1900s where visitors can discover how families lived and worked in the prelude to World War I, highlighting the stimulating experiences of Pit Village and Colliery, which invite reflection.

Among the other attractions, there is a vintage tram, a farmhouse from the 1940s, an Edwardian train station and the Pockerley cottage, set in the 1820s.
