Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is the ninth work of American filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, the most humorous and closest to his heart. The film is very long, free from any restrictions or control, but it is full of beautiful moments, terrible performance and the atmosphere of the Hollywood in the sixties mixed with fictional and realistic Nostalgia unmistakable. It is not a cinematic masterpiece and has some chaos, but it stays in your memory after you get out of it.
The film proceeds very lightly despite its relatively slow pace, moving freely between its parallel stories without anyone predicting the course of the story. This film is the least violent of Trentino; but it bears the imprint of the director as a product of the man who made the film Pulp Fiction.
For Tarantino, making “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and deliberately re-mentioning the title of the film, reflects the man's passion and upbringing as he sees it, that he makes what he enjoys most. It is important to realize that the man is in the best mood, and that the film is a complete reflection of the psychological state he is experiencing.
As if Tarantino had a list of the necessary things he wanted to put in this work, and whenever he put something out of it: he put Leonardo DiCaprio versus Brad Pitt, as if Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Like a child in front of his toy box, he re-establishes Hollywood in 1969, adds his actors, and even removes movie stars at the time and replaces his actors.
Have you ever imagined what the Big Escape would look like if you omit Steve McQueen and put DiCaprio in his place? As with Pulp Fiction, Tarantino is not merely telling a single story. The contract is not necessarily coherent but it is enough for the meditator to live the man's psyche.
As he did in Englorius Bastards a decade ago, Tarantino rewrites history according to his mood, omits what is in the books and turns it upside down. In other words, the man takes that fabric, which is adorned with paintings hanging on a wall, dismantles his strands and re-weaves them at will. Parts of stories
The film takes place in Los Angeles in 1969 and focuses on three characters: the demise of Western television icon Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), Dalton's risk actor Cliff Booth (Pitt), and then rising star Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie). The first and second fantasy of Tarantino but Tate's real character was the wife of the famous director Roman Polanski, and died in the crime of the well-known Manson clan.
Trentino stated that Dalton was a compilation of real figures at the time, most notably Canadian veteran actor William Shatner. Though cinema lives in its digital age, Tarantino filmed the work using the 35mm film, which was used in the 1960s and the man did not film any film with a digital camera and refuses to use it. Trentino makes his films from the remnants of previous old films he formulates in his own way; that is, he imitated but magically created an extreme line in cinema by making authenticity from tradition! Many tried to imitate Tarantino and no one succeeded because the man had exceptional talent, and he was able to prepare his own cookery of ingredients developed by others but employed a formula and flavor that the viewer can only taste in his films.
Tarantino did not invent the idea of a starring duo, but this duo (Leonardo Cabrio and Brad Pitt) is the best harmonious duo in a film to perfection this decade. DiCaprio deserves Oscar for the best actor.
