In the Hakodate air raid at the end of the Pacific War, the Seikan ferry connecting Hokkaido and Honshu and its related facilities were attacked by the US military and many civilians were sacrificed. On the 15th day of the end of the war, in Hakodate City, temples and churches in the city rang the bell all together in hope of peace.

The event is held every year at the call of the Hakodate UNESCO Association, and 10 temples and churches from all over the city participated.

About 50 people, including local children and the elderly, gathered at one of the venues, “Honkanji Hakodate Betsuin”. Let's hope for Japan without war. "

After 11:30 am, each person wore a bell and peacefully joined hands asking for peace.

A 75-year-old woman who participated said, “I visit every year in hopes that the countries will get along.”
