A 10-year-old boy was killed in a crocodile attack while crossing a river near his home in the western Philippines, police said today.

Provincial police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Socrates Valtado said the crocodile pulled the victim from the back of a small wooden boat in a river in the town of Palabac, Palawan province, 849 km southwest of Manila, on Monday.

The boy was in the boat with his older brother and sister, Valtado said.

He said a fisherman found parts of the victim's body the next day in the nearby mangrove area.

Balabak has already seen crocodile attacks. Last year, authorities seized a 4.75-meter crocodile suspected of attacking and killing a fisherman in the town.
