The SVOD platform of France Télévisions, TF1 and M6, which is an answer to the giants of streaming type Netflix, will be launched in the first quarter of 2020.

ON DECRYPT

It's now official. Salto, the video subscription platform project promoted by France Télévisions, TF1 and M6, to counter the giants of streaming type Netflix, has received a green light "under conditions" from the Competition Authority. The launch of the commercial offer is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020. While in the United States, the giants Apple, Warner and Disney are preparing to launch their own subscription video offers (before a probable deployment in Europe) , what does French Netflix reserve for its future subscribers?

Green light from the Competition Authority, a very nice news for French TV. Long live Salto! https://t.co/Hhgtc26KAV

What contents?

On-line and subscription-based platform, Salto will offer live channel feeds, catch-up programs as well as video-on-demand services. A way for these groups to respond with one voice to the rise of the SVOD (subscription video on demand services) in France, with 5.5 million daily users, especially among the youngest, according to the figures from Médiamétrie.

But Salto will be limited. The Autorité de la concurrence has strongly framed the possibilities of the platform. "TF1, France Télévisions and M6 are committed to that Salto can not contract exclusivity distribution channels DTT in clear and their associated services and features," said the institution in its statement.

At what price ?

France Télévisions, TF1 and M6 have not yet communicated on the price of the subscription to which it will be necessary to subscribe to have access to Salto. However, in June 2018, Le Monde indicated that there would be two types of monthly offer. A basic, between 2 and 5 euros, and a more complete, between 7 and 8 euros. As a reminder, in France, the price of Netflix subscription varies between 7.99 euros and 15.99 euros.
