In June 1979, following the 30th anniversary of the GDR, communist leaders Honecker and Breznev sealed socialist solidarity with a kiss from those who drown. Both knew that their alliance had the years counted, as was responsible for demonstrating Gorbachev's perestroika . The painting of this fraternal kiss is the one that thousands of tourists photograph every day at the East Side Gallery in Berlin. Today marks 58 years since the order was given to build the wall . The barbed wire of its 43 kilometers not only evokes the border strip that separated both banks, but the testimony of the open-air jail that was the USSR. The wall fell in '89. The communist abjection should not be reduced to mere souvenirs .
