Missy Elliott will be honored with an oeuvre prize during the upcoming presentation of the MTV Video Music Awards. During the show on Monday, August 26, the rapper receives the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
The 48-year-old Elliott also performs during the award ceremony. MTV announces this via Facebook. The rapper who was born as Melissa Elliott broke through in the nineties with songs such as The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) and Sock It 2 Me . In the Netherlands she scored her biggest hits with the albums Get Ur Freak On , 4 My People and Work It .
The rapper took a long break after 2008 and only returned in 2015 with new solo material. She recently worked on albums by Ariana Grande and Lizzo, among others.
MTV's oeuvre prize has been awarded since 1984 and has been named Michael Jackson since 1991. In recent years, artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Pink, Kanye West and Beyoncé received the award.
