An event that gathered the lids of distinctive manholes from around the country was held in Hijimachi, Oita, which has a manhole cover featuring the world-famous character “Hello Kitty”.

This event was held to commemorate the fact that Hijimachi, Oita Prefecture, which has a Sanrio theme park known for its characters such as Hello Kitty, has created a manhole cover with Hello Kitty for the town revitalization.

At the venue, 16 manhole covers used by local governments nationwide were displayed. Of these, the ones from Kitakyushu are based on the “Galaxy Express 999” work by a renowned cartoonist, Reiji Matsumoto.

In addition, characters that handled characters such as “Chibi Maruko-chan” in Shizuoka City and “Detective Conan” in Hokuei Town, Tottori Prefecture were popular, and visitors enjoyed taking photos.

There was also a corner where you could make a can badge in the shape of a manhole lid, and children drew pictures to make original can badges and took them home.

The woman who visited with the son of an elementary school student said, “I came to play thinking that it would be good for the free study of children.

Mr. Daisuke Aono, head of the Hijimachi Waterworks and Sewerage Division, said, “Because each local manhole is handmade one by one and expresses the specialties and characters in detail, I want you to enjoy paying attention to the skills of such craftsmen” .
