The city council suspects personal information fraud and the use of elections Kanagawa Hiratsuka, August 8, 20:31

In fact, a 40-year-old member who was elected for the first time in the municipal assembly election in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, which was held in April's unified local election, retired from the city's school board last year. I found that there was a suspicion that information was illegally taken out and used for elections.

Hiratsuka City revealed this at a press conference. According to it, Mr. Ryo Watanabe (40), the city council member who was elected for the first time in April, worked for the City Board of Education until last year, but twice before last November and December before and after retirement. This means that there is a suspicion of illegally taking out more than 31,000 personal information such as civic addresses and account numbers.

In April, however, there was an indication from a citizen that Mr. Watanabe sent a postcard asking for support in an election, saying that "personal information may be leaked". It means that there was evidence of copying information from the computer.

Mr. Watanabe also held a press conference about this, and apologized that “they were not easily aware of personal information and thought easily.” However, because the amount of data was large, all of them could not be copied, and more than 200 were actually taken out. He explained that the purpose was to give a retirement greeting, and the data was deposited with the staff, so he did not know if it was used for the election.

However, the city is considering criminal charges on suspicion of violation of the Personal Information Protection Ordinance that postcards have arrived other than citizens who claim that Mr. Watanabe was able to copy the data.
